My other half and I took a trip to Rome last month, nothing too fancy, literally two days as a city break, left on Friday returned on Sunday morning……
We have been together 5 years and this was our first trip abroad, can you believe!!!! We went to Vatican City and it’s beautiful, the Vatican inside itself is truly stunning. Climbed the 871 steps up to the top of St Peters Basilica, tiring as it was, what spectacular views!!! It was so hot as well, reached approximately 36degrees. All the water we had drunk just turned into sweat. And we didn’t even get time to eat, we were inside the Vatican for 2.5 hours then inside St Peters Basilica, so by the time we were done it was 5pm, exhausted and just needed food!
Customer service in Italy is lacking, they’re not so focused on keeping customers happy. The first evening we walked out of 2 restaurants as the staff were just rude and unpleasant. When we did find somewhere, we were just ignored. But as we were starving, we ate and left. Saturday was probably the best, a local restaurant just near our hotel, the owners were really nice, helpful and even made special vegetarian food for us. I have to say Italian Wine is just the best, and obviously better when drunken in its own prime country! I’ve not tasted good wine till now! They do like it strong, but at least you can taste the hidden notes!
We did the colosseum of course, again, sheer beauty!!! One of the wonders of the world and its remarkable!
But the highlight of the trip for me was Trevi Fountain, it is exactly like the movies, immense beauty, stunning and spectacular!! My other half also proposed to me there on the Friday evening!! I had no idea he was even going to, to say I was surprised is an understatement. I was shocked and speechless for 10 minutes. I have always loved Rome but now I love it even more! I love the beauty, the art, the romance it conveys. It’s a city of amazing architecture.
Oh and the gelato is heavenly! Had it twice in one day, could do with some more now!
The next time I return to Rome, I will be Mrs 🙂
